The Bongaree Water Tower Mural is a large-scale public artwork painted on a Unitywater water tower in Bongaree, Bribie Island.
Created by Mike Shankster the mural transforms this public structure into a coastal landmark. The artwork features an underwater scene with a sea turtle, seagrass, and marine elements, reflecting the surrounding Bribie Island environment.
Unitywater required a large-scale mural for the Bongaree water tower on Bribie Island. The artwork needed to suit the height, shape, and visibility of the structure, while creating a strong connection to the local coastal environment. The design was developed around underwater wildlife and marine themes, helping the water tower feel more connected to its location and community.
The completed mural turned the Bongaree water tower into a public artwork and local visual landmark.
The underwater design wraps the structure with soft blue tones, flowing water lines, seagrass, and a sea turtle as the central feature. The project adds colour, character, and a stronger sense of place to the site, while contributing to the wider public art landscape across Bribie Island and South East Queensland.
